Shannon Mary Modla
April 27, 1943 ~ February 8, 2023
Shannon M. Modla, 79, of Hockessin, DE, passed away surrounded by her husband of 42 years and her three children on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023. Born in Tekoa, WA, on April 27, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Colleen (Linehan) McClurg.
Shannon was born and raised on a wheat farm in the Palouse region of eastern Washington. She helped her mother prepare meals on the cook wagon to bring out to the farmers who were working in the fields. In high school, she was engaged in a variety of activities. She was on the pep squad, played the flute in the band, was a member of the women’s basketball team, participated in school plays, served as the senior class president, and was selected to be prom queen. In addition to high school events, Shannon represented Whitman County during Spokane’s Lilac Festival as one of the queens. In her adult life, Shannon worked as a receptionist at the Central Research Division of Crown Zellerbach in Camas, WA, before becoming a full-time homemaker.
People who knew Shannon always referred to her as sweet, kind, and caring. She loved her family and took pride in her children. She was a nurturer and spent hours taking care of those she loved.
Shannon is survived by her husband, John; her three children and their spouses – Julie Taie (Darren) and Mike Ludwig (Jen) of Camas, WA, and Shannon Modla (Megan) of Hockessin, DE. She is also survived by four grandchildren – Olivia Dennis, Sean Dennis, Camden Ludwig, and Hudson Ludwig of Camas, WA; and her brother, Tim McClurg of Enterprise, AL.
A small memorial service was held at the Ashland Nature Center in Hockessin, DE, on Sunday, Feb. 12th.
