Janet M. Hurd

Janet M. Hurd passed away on the evening of September 15, 2023 at the age of 79 due to cancer.  She will be laid to rest with her late husband, Gerald L. Hurd, at the Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota at 1pm October 30, 2023.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Norma Pollman, and her siblings, Nancy McWhorter and Floyd Pollman.  She is survived by her two children, Cliff Essex and Cindy Halcumb (husband Keith), their 5 children and 6 grandchildren.  Also by her stepsons Anthony Hurd (wife Mariana) and Jon Hurd (wife Rhea) and their 3 children.

She was born in Denver, Colorado and with her enthusiasm for life and new experiences, lived in Florida, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, Oregon, Alaska, Iowa, South Dakota and Washington State.  Her travels took her to the 50 United States and extended into 5 Continents.

She spent her last 11 years as matriarch of the family home in Camas, Washington, affectionately known as “Grandma Janet” and enjoying cruises in nearly every ocean with her friends.   Her positive attitude and energy will be sincerely missed.  A celebration of her life will take place at the family home on the afternoon of October 22, 2023.
