Caleigh Lofstead swings on the bars for the Papermakers at the state gymnastics meet Friday, in the Tacoma Dome. The CHS junior earned a 10.0 start value for the first time this season, and finished with a score of 8.25.

Lofstead keeps raising the bar

Caleigh Lofstead's third high school state gymnastics meet was short, but sweet. The Camas High School junior earned her first 10.0 starting value on the uneven bars this season Friday, at the Tacoma Dome. She put together one of her best routines and was rewarded with a score of 8.25.

Kasey Calwell captured two state championships for Camas in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke Saturday, at the King County Aquatic Center, in Federal Way. The Swimmer of the Meet also helped the Papermakers earn fourth place in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

The Papermakers didn't need a diving board to spring to second place at the state meet Saturday.

Abby Lees came back to the Tacoma Dome Saturday and gained the prize she lost out on a year ago. The Washougal High School sophomore went home with the 155-pound girls state championship.

After coming up short in the state championship match a year ago, Abby Lees returned to the Tacoma Dome and earned her place on the top of the podium.

Panthers break 32-year playoff curse

After winning its first playoff game since 1983, the Washougal High School girls basketball team pushed Mark Morris to the final buzzer in the semifinals Monday, at Ridgefield High School.

After a pair of historical seasons, the Camas High School girls and boys basketball teams will host district semifinal playoff games Wednesday.

Camas High School freshman Brian Andrade has been an inspiration to the Papermakers since joining the swimming team this season. The 14-year-old has autism, but has loved the water since taking lessons at LaCamas Swim & Sport when he was 4.

When it comes to academics, competition and teamwork, the Camas High School boys swimmers are worth their weight in gold.

Papermade athletes are college bound

The biggest assembly of Papermakers particpated in National College Signing Day today, at Camas High School. Eight athletes were advertised. Four more completed the final steps just in time. All of them thanked their parents, teachers, coaches, teammates, friends, family and community for their unwavering support for the past 12 years.
