Appeal delves deeper into Camas football investigation

Thursday's appeal hearing in Chehalis revealed more into a recruiting investigation on Camas High School football coaches Jon Eagle and Dan Kielty. Although the WIAA Executive Board voted to reduce Eagle's suspension from four games to three, Kielty's punishment has been extended from one to three games.

Hailey Oster shot a team-best round of 79 strokes for Camas in the first round of the district tournament Monday, on the Lewis River Golf Course, in Woodland. She's currently ranked third on the leaderboard.

Camas golfers off to fantastic start at districts

Hailey Oster, Elise Filuk, Rio Smith and Connie Wang are four strokes apart and in the top six for the Papermakers at the district tournament. Maddie Miller and Skyla Stifter will also be playing in today's championship round at the Lewis River Golf Course, in Woodland.

Camas creates distance after first day of districts

Caleigh Lofstead only needed two vaults to become district champion Monday, at McKenzie Stadium. The Camas High School junior set her sights on a personal best height of 13 feet, but came up just centimeters short. "I barely hit the bar coming down," Lofstead said. "I've been trying to get to 13 feet for the last few meets. This is the closest I've been to it all season. For it to come at state would be a good time." Lofstead is a three-time district champion in the pole vault. She hopes to improve on her third-place finish at state this weekend, at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma. "Back when I started pole vaulting, I never thought this could be possible," Lofstead said. "My goal has always been just to make it to state. Becoming district champion is the cherry on top."

Wager V-Formation Flyer Award, in recognition of his efforts to lead the charge resulting in the completion of more than $200,000 in  improvements at the popular baseball facility.

Kuhlman earns Parks Foundation award

The Parks Foundation of Clark County recently honored a local man for his tenacity and commitment to the area's youth. Through his efforts to bring new lights, bleachers and a scoreboard to Louis Bloch Park in Camas, Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth President Dave Kuhlman received the V-Formation Flyer Florence B. Wager Award. The presentation was made during the annual Parks Foundation luncheon in April.

Camas soccer rolls along to state

The Camas High School boys soccer team sidestepped the district trap and grabbed the championship May 12, at Doc Harris Stadium. A needle and thread between teammates helped the Papermakers weave three goals to defeat Mountain View 3-0 and secure their 17th straight appearance in the state tournament.

Sophomore Allie Hancock and juniors Emma Jimenez and Alexis Tiedy led the hit parade on Senior Day. The Camas High School softball team thumped Heritage 11-0 in five innings Thursday to secure the league championship.

Friends become champions

Sami Anderson and Haley Briggs bounced back from their first lost set in stunning fashion. The two Washougal High School seniors beat Ridgefield's Sarah Kaufman and Sophie Bird 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 for the 2A sub-district doubles championship Saturday, in Longview.
