Golf buddies battle for district title
It had been a long time since Ben Gruher and Brian Humphreys went one-on-one on the golf course, but that's what the 4A district tournament boiled down to Tuesday.

Twenty seconds from the opening kickoff, Tristan Roseff triggered a landslide and the Washougal football team buried Hudson's Bay 48-6 Friday at Kiggins Bowl.
Alissa Pudlitzke has been chasing Alexis Fuller for years. "It's always fun to run with her because I know we are going to push each other," Pudlitzke said.
Courtney Owens traversed the sand, gravel, dirt and grass at Capt. William Clark Park in record time Wednesday. The Washougal High School sophomore crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 21 minutes, 19 seconds. "It's a lot harder than normal because your feet are always slipping, but it's a good challenge," Owens said. "Once I got off the beach, I said 'you got this.' I felt pretty good coming around to the finish."
The beat goes on for the Camas football team, to the tune of 77-21. Battle Ground scored a touchdown within the first three minutes of Thursday's game at District Stadium. After that, it was all Papermakers.
The Papermakers left everything on the diamond during the slowpitch softball district championship game Monday, at Heritage High School. Kamryn Schroeder, Tori O'Neill and Emma Jimenez led off the top of the seventh inning with back-to-back-to-back hits to load the bases. Rio Smith added an RBI single, Katie Schroeder delivered a 3-run double and McKinley Johnson knocked in a run on a ground out. Abbi Wong and Kennedy Ferguson kept the rally alive with 2-out base hits, but the next Papermaker grounded out to end the game. Skyview held on for a 12-10 victory.
Propelled by a 35-point wave, the Camas football team methodically dismantled Skyview 56-24 Friday, at Doc Harris Stadium.
Playing in front of a packed warehouse at Camas High School propelled the Papermakers to a five-set victory against Battle Ground Sept. 30.
With throbbing legs and thumping hearts, the Camas High School girls soccer players remained bound and determined until the final whistle.
No football team has been able to stop Woodland so far.
