The Washougal High School girls cross country team took third place at the district meet Saturday, on the Lewis River Golf Course, in Woodland, to qualify for state.

Washougal girls get back to state

The Washougal High School girls cross country extended its season to the state championship meet with a third-place finish at districts Saturday, on the Lewis River Golf Course, in Woodland. "It's so much more special when you make it to state as a team," said captain and senior Karina Miller. Sophomore Courtney Owens hung with the leading runners from Tumwater. She also beat league rival Bailey Birch, of Ridgefield, to the finish line in third place with a time of 19 minutes, 53 seconds.

Tickets to state

Seven Papermakers finished in the top 11 at Lewisville Park Thursday, making Camas a shoe-in for the district cross country championship.

Eugenia Beale helped the Papermakers win the 400 and the 200 freestyle relay races Thursday, at Cascade Athletic Center. She also finished second in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 individual medley.

Papermaker swimmers edge Mountain View

Wins in the 200-meter freestyle relay, 100 backstroke and 400 freestyle relay carried the Camas High School girls swimming team to an 87-83 victory against Mountain View Thursday, at Cascade Athletic Center.

Camas wins clash of titans

Thousands of fans filled both sides of McKenzie Stadium Friday to see the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked high school football teams clash in the rain.
