When Sophie Shoemaker texted her mother to tell her she'd achieved a perfect score on her ACT exam, Cherie Shoemaker thought she was one of a few at Camas High School to earn it. "I just replied back in the usual fashion, 'That's amazing!' and 'That's my girl, good job!' thinking she was probably one of five or 10 other students from Camas who got a 36," Cherie said.
Washougal students and families enjoyed a combination of skillful juggling, demonstrations and learning about the laws of gravity at Rhys Thomas' "Jugglemania" performance on July 7 at Hathaway Elementary School. This was the first of five free events this summer that are open to the public and held in the Hathaway School gym at 630 24th St., Washougal.
Rizzo named to dean's list at Siena College Deanna Rizzo of Camas was named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Siena College. She is a biology major.
Thirty-two Washougal School District students earned Youth Achievement Awards from the Clark County Youth Commission. The 16th annual county-wide celebration was held at Skyview High School last month and recognized the achievement of youth who demonstrate, "personal growth and community contributions."
Camas student accepted into OSF Summer Seminar Kelsey Kuhta of Camas has been accepted into the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's 2014 Summer Seminar. The program, designed for high school juniors, includes students from all over the United States.
Canyon Creek Middle School National Junior Honor Society gave to their community and shared their own passion for reading through a book drive to help underprivileged and at-risk youth. The group began planning in mid-May for the two week drive that brought in 1,451 books for the local Children's Home Society of Washington.
Local students graduate from Oregon State University Several local students earned degrees from Oregon State University last month. Commencement was held Saturday, June 14.
Chloe Connors loves to express herself through art and music. So when the 13-year-old learned that members of the Jemtegaard Middle School choir would have to pay for new folders, she took action. "I really enjoy choir and wanted to help out," Chloe said.
Two Washougal High School freshman, Sayre Glaser and Matthew Hickey, will be among the state finalists vying for a national title at the Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA) National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., June 29 to July 2.
