Washougal High receives produce donation

Washougal High School culinary students will use locally harvested produce that was raised on school grounds in their cooking classrooms this fall thanks to a donation from a community member.

Camas parents defend school board, district’s anti-racism work

In the weeks following a heated May 10 Camas School Board meeting featuring a group of vocal Camas-area residents who railed against the school district’s “woke” agenda, COVID-19 mask mandates, remote learning and racial justice and equity programs, dozens of Camas parents have written letters and spoken out in defense of the school district and its elected school board officials.

‘An amazingly dedicated, innovative educator’

Brenda Hitchins challenges her Washougal High School culinary students to succeed, but also to not fear failure. If they accidentally crack an egg and break a yoke, for example, she’ll remind them that eggs are cheap and easily accessible, and encourage them to try again.

Washougal grads reflect on facing, defeating challenges

Earlier this year, Washougal High School Principal Sheree Clark asked Ethan Mills, the school’s Associated Student Body president, to deliver some “inspiring life advice” to his fellow seniors at the school’s graduation ceremony. Recognizing the challenge in front of him Mills laced his reply with a hint of good-natured sarcasm.

WSD officials: Critical Race Theory not part of proposed policy

On May 10, Washougal School Board member Jim Cooper watched a livestream of the Camas School Board’s meeting, during which several parents discussed their concerns about critical race theory (CRT), an academic movement that examines social, cultural and legal issues as they relate to race and racism.

Camas-Washougal students, community members honored

A Washougal high school senior, the chair of the Camas School District’s Citizens Advisory Committee and a group that dedicated itself to passing school levies for Camas students are among those the Washington Association of School Administrators recently honored with its 2021 awards recognizing educational administrators and community members who have made extraordinary contributions to K-12 education in their communities.
