Pacific Crest Academy to celebrate Saints The annual Saints Museum will come to Pacific Crest Academy from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

A youngster shoots hoops during the annual Family Halloween Night at Liberty Middle School. The event, sponsored by Camas Parks and Recreation, features a game area for children ages 5 and younger, as well as activities for older kids.

A ‘spook-tacular’ time

As the leaves begin falling and the days get cooler, one thing is for sure: It's fall in the Northwest. In Camas and Washougal, that means an abundance of Halloween events and harvest festivals to keep kids supplied with enough sugar to last all winter.

Healthier options

Say the words, "school lunch," and for many, it conjures up memories of mystery meat, green hotdogs, limp lettuce leaves and dry Salisbury steak. But things have changed, especially in the Camas School District. Nowadays, students from elementary school on up are offered fresh vegetables, burgers, sandwiches, Goldfish crackers, and more. The commons area at Camas High School resembles a mall food court, but with healthy options.

Girls bowling will soon be offered at Camas High

Camas High School offers a wide variety of extra curricular activities that appeal to many different interests. Beginning at the end of October, girls bowling will be added to the list. "Currently, we are the only 3A or 4A school in Clark County who does not offer girls bowling," said Terry Cavender, CHS athletic director. Cavender and Rita Pakenen, the district's human resources director, made a presentation to the School Board at last Monday's meeting to approve the request for bowling.

Area residents will have their choice of Fuji, Gala, Honey Crisp, Braeburn and golden delicious apples, as well as D'Anjou pears, at the annual Apple Festival, Sunday, Oct. 9 at Riverside Adventist Christian School, in Washougal. The event also includes face painting, "Old Tyme country photos" and a "country junque store," featuring books, puzzles and toys.

Celebrating an abundance of apples

If you have a hankering for apples, then Riverside Christian Adventist School is the place to be next Sunday. That's when apples in many varieties will be available for sale.
