These appliances depend on potentially hazardous materials, such as mercury, to operate. After a five-to-eight year useful life, many are tossed into dumpster and sent to landfills where they can leach into the soil and groundwater.”
A summary released this week detailing an exhaustive report on the health and future of our Earth compiled by 500 scientists from 50 countries offers a grim warning: humans are decimating the planet and, if we don’t immediately make “transformative changes” at every level, we risk the extinction of one million animal and plant species as well as an unsustainable future for humankind.
Providing for the public’s safety and elections that are accurate, transparent accountable and accessible are two of Clark County’s highest priorities. However, because the Washington State Legislature continues to refuse to pay its fair share of election costs, it is increasingly difficult to properly fund these.
During the course of reporting on events like the upcoming Washougal Studio Artists Tour and the annual Clark County Open Studios Tour, both of which allow the public to visit artists working in their own studio spaces, two things have become clear: first, people are hungry to make real-life, in-person connections with makers in their community; and second, city leaders would be wise to promote and encourage this type of “creative tourism” in the Camas-Washougal area.
