Teachers unions: safety is top concern

Teachers union leaders in Camas and Washougal say local educators’ reactions to recent news that both school district plan to bring many students back to the classroom soon after the winter break — despite the fact that Clark County COVID-19 infections remain on an upward trajectory — run the gamut, from apprehensive to exuberant.

Camas sets timelines for K-12 return to classrooms

Camas School District leaders this week clarified a plan to bring all K-12 students back to the classroom for limited, in-person opportunities, beginning with first- and second-graders on Jan. 19, 2021.

Annual Walk & Knock event shatters fundraising record

Walk & Knock’s “Drive & Drop” food drive this year brought in more than 130,000 pounds of food while raising a record $110,000. The Camas-Washougal dropoff site at ERS Rentals brought in 6,767 pounds of food.

Washougal greenlights school reopenings

Several dozen parents and students gathered in front of the Washougal School District office on Dec. 17 for an informal rally, waving signs in front of honking automobiles and calling for the district to reopen its buildings for in-person instruction.
