The city of Camas’ annual Hometown Holidays celebration comes with its own set of traditions: taking photos with Santa, enjoying the beauty of the lighted holiday tree in front of the LIberty Theatre, grabbing a cup of hot cocoa at Journey Church, listening to Camas student bands and browsing tables lined with used books inside the Camas Public Library’s second-story meeting rooms.
When the Washougal Learning Academy (WLA) leaders decided to select a school mascot and logo last summer, they wanted the chosen symbol to represent more than the WLA itself. They wanted it to be, in their words, “something special.”
The Washougal School District Soundstage performing arts club put on three three radio plays during the 2020-21 school year, performances that received praise from parents, district employees and other community members. The club’s production of “A Christmas Carol” was especially popular, garnering more than 1,000 clicks on the district website.
Camas School District: The Camas School Board will hold a regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, in the Dennison Board Room at the Zellerbach Administration Center, 841 N.E. 22nd Ave., Camas. The Board requires in-person meeting participants to adhere to COVID-19 mitigations, including wearing a face covering. The meeting will be livestreamed and available for later viewing on the school board’s YouTube channel. A nearly decade-long partnership between Camas and Washougal that formed the Camas-Washougal Fire Department in 2013, “has too many gaps to represent a sustainable model moving forward,” consultants told Camas and Washougal city officials during a Nov. 18 Zoom meeting.
