A colorful collection of fabrics, threads and buttons awaits visitors to River Quilts, in downtown Camas. Nancy Sullivan, owner of the new business, hopes to inspire people to get back into sewing and find their creative outlet. "I want to help them with any new projects or finish projects stuck in a closet," she said. She sells Moda, Maywood, Westminster Fibers, Andover and Michael Miller fabrics, as well as Gutermann and Aurifil quilting thread and DMC embroidery floss. Colors include jade, gold and deep red.
A Washougal jeweler has an interest in all of the items he sells. Those pieces, available to purchase in Jewelry Creations By Mark Lewis, include Laramar, a Caribbean blue jasper from the Dominican Republic, in a cast sterling silver setting with abalone inlay. There is also a AAA-grade pear-shaped amethyst in a wire wrap setting, as well as mystic quartz, amber and Ethiopian fire opal. Lewis, 56, also works with Swarovski faceted crystal beads for earrings, pendants and bracelets. He incorporates fossils into some of his designs. They include an amanite (nautilus shell) in a sterling silver wire setting.
While the annual Mother's Day Plant and Garden Fair has been relocated to Camas High School this year, merchants in downtown Camas still hope to attract a share of local residents and visitors to shop Saturday.
"He's been around it ever since," Robert said. "I wish all fathers and sons got along as well as we do." Today, they work together at Classic Muffler & Brakes, a shop that recently opened in downtown Camas. It is owned by Brian and his wife Pamela, as well as Robert and his wife Donna.
A local couple has opened their third SNAP Fitness location - a 24-hour center in Camas. Doug and Jodi Vaughan also own SNAP facilities in Woodland and Battle Ground, as well as Caffe Piccolo, in downtown Camas. The SNAP Fitness facilities offer cardio and strength-training equipment, group exercise classes, tanning, and private and small group personal training. Month-to-month memberships are available.
Area businesses are invited to promote their companies during the Downtown Camas First Friday event.
Columbia Ridge to host networking opportunity Thursday Local business owners and health care providers are invited to mingle with others during a networking event at Columbia Ridge Senior Living, in Washougal.
A medical clinic has moved from Washougal to Camas. Sarah Russell, former owner of Columbia Gorge Medical Center, provides family medical care, annual physicals and drug screenings as the co-owner and medical director at Grass Valley Medical Clinic, in the 192nd Plaza. She also treats patients who have filed worker's compensation claims, as well as individuals who need sports and Department of Transportation physicals, mole and wart removals, flu shots, blood sugar checks and pregnancy tests.
