A mannequin leg decorated by Beth Cox is displayed during 2013's "Legs About Town" exhibit, a precursor to the Glamorous Gams fundraiser in September to benefit Vancouver's Children's Center.

Local woman creates leg art

A Camas woman is among the artists who have decorated mannequin legs -- to benefit the Children's Center. Elida Field's "Dear Legs" creation included an apology letter to her legs. "For me, it was about accepting our bodies and being thankful for the things we have," she said. The letter mentions making it through knee surgeries, cuts, bruises and muscle tears. "I looked with admiration at other legs -- legs that were leaner, longer, smoother and more beautiful -- wishing I had those," Field said. "I'm sure this made you feel badly. I am so sorry! "Even with all of this poor treatment, you helped me to jump high and run fast!" she added. "You are strong, tan, muscular, and you do almost everything I ask!"

Janet Naylor, founder and owner of Woof and Tumble, loves her job so much that she sometimes has a hard time parting with her borders. She says she loves each dog to pieces, something that owners appreciate.

Tails wag at Bear Prairie’s Woof and Tumble

Dog day care and boarding center "Woof and Tumble" will officially welcome its new groomer, Heather Fawver, during an open house on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The barbecue, for humans only, is an effort to thank existing and new clients as well as to showcase the business's facilities and the companies they work with. Janet Naylor started Woof and Tumble three years ago when she couldn’t find an adequate boarding facility in the area with reasonable prices. It was only after she looked into what went on at kennels and identified the qualities she figured were important that her husband advised her to, “Just go for it.” So, she became first-aid certified, set up the facilities and was open for business. "I wanted something rural, friendly, easy-going," said Naylor, who has found her home at last. She grew up in England and has lived in several different states across America. "I could never see myself moving anywhere else now." Woof and Tumble is located at 181 Mathews Road in Washougal.
