Waste Connections opens first natural gas fueling station

Waste Connections Inc. has celebrated the opening of its first compressed natural gas facility in Clark County. It is located at the hauling facility at 9411 N.E. 94th Ave., Vancouver. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Sept. 12.

Since joining Straub's in July, Brown has led an effort to add new technology to the funeral home's services. "He is me 15 years ago," Dierickx said. "I have been dragging my feet on some of this, and he is the one that was able to put it all together."

An unlikely partnership

It was only a year ago that Chris Dierickx and Nick Brown were working in two separate funeral homes in the small community of Camas. Dierickx is a fourth generation funeral director and current owner of Straub's Funeral Home and Columbia River Cremation, while at that time Brown was a third generation funeral director at Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services. "We were both managers of our own family firms," said Brown. "We really had only talked in passing. It wasn't that there was any hostility between the two of us, we just didn't know each other."

Interim county administrator begins work on Sept. 11

Clark County's interim county administrator will begin his new job on Sept. 11. Mark McCauley, who is currently the county's general services director, will step in for retiring County Administrator Bill Barron.

Local business owners purchase Workshed Interactive

Two local men have bought a local company, with the intention to keep it local and help other local businesses succeed. Joseph Graves and Brian Kashas have purchased Workshed Interactive from Bret and Shannon Van Horn. "Brian and I had been searching for a way to work together, and Workshed had built each of us a website," Graves said. "When we heard from Bret and Shannon that they'd be moving on, we felt like the Workshed brand of craftsmanship was a good fit with our personalities. "We both appreciate good design and enjoy problem solving," he added. "This was something we could do together, add our own business philosophy, and maintain our existing businesses Joseph Graves Capital Management and Evolutn Design." Former Congressional aide hired by the CREDC

The new manager of investor relations for the Columbia River Economic Development Council worked three years as the district director for U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell. Kimberly Pincheira served in a similar capacity for former Congressman Brian Baird. "She brings a wealth of relationships and experience with local businesses and governments which will be important to our organization," CREDC Board Chair Bill Dudley said regarding Pincheira.

Lacamas Community Credit Union, founded in Camas in 1936, has opened its Andresen Financial Center in Vancouver. It is the credit union's northwestern-most location.
