Ann Matthews will open Arktana, a men's and women's shoe store, in downtown Camas Thursday, April 24. The grand opening celebration will be held on First Friday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. "I've always been a shoe lover," she said. "But to be honest, it's never been something I could find locally. I always knew that Camas needed a shoe store. I always told my husband that if I don't open it, someone else will. It's just a matter of time."

1950s cinema and fashion icon Marilyn Monroe once said, "Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world." For many women, shoes are not simply worn to protect feet from the elements, but as unique expressions of style, mood and personality. With this in mind, a new boutique in downtown Camas will soon offer footwear for women and men in a variety of styles, colors and sizes, with a special focus on customer service and attention to detail.

Lacamas Credit Union hosts free shred days in May

For the seventh consecutive year, Lacamas Community Credit Union will sponsor two free community shred days in May. The Clark County shred day is scheduled for Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the 192nd Avenue Financial Center, located at 19200 S.E. 31st St., in the Fisher's Landing area of Camas.

New Leaders join Clark College Alumni Board

Five Clark County leaders joined the Clark College Alumni Association board of directors. They are Jay Gilberg, class of 1978, of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, Mari Jessup, '12, of Horenstein Law Group, Chandra Chase, '02, of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, Carson Legree of Clark College and Jennifer Campbell, '13, an award-winning Clark student. Each new board member will serve a three-year term and work on a variety of projects including alumni membership recruitment, on- and off-campus fundraising events, Clark College's Outstanding Alumni Award recognition and the annual Alumni-Student Dinner.

Event will recognize ‘green’ business practices

Seventeen businesses will be honored Wednesday for their commitment to environmental protection by participating in Clark County's Green Business Program. The third annual Green Business Showcase will recognize new program participants, as well as businesses that continue to reduce energy use, promote recycling, manage polluted storm runoff and implement other sustainable practices.

Vancouver Vision Clinic relocates within Camas

The staff of the Vancouver Vision Clinic in downtown Camas recently joked that they needed sunglasses when they moved from a basement level office to desks surrounded by windows. The ample amounts of natural light, on the street level, are at 329 N.E. Sixth Ave. The move from 405 N.E. Sixth Ave., occurred March 3. Dr. Raj Patel and Dr. Derek McTyier own the building and the practice. The new office has three exam rooms, compared to one at the former location.
