Local accounting firm acquires another practice

An accounting firm with offices in Camas and Ridgefield recently acquired another practice. NWCPA, a certified public accounting and financial consulting firm, purchased the accounting and tax practice of Sharon Davenport.

Camas woman serves with the Association of Fundraising Professionals

A local resident has been elected to a volunteer leadership position with the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Carol Van Natta, of Camas, serves on the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy board of directors. She is the executive director and chief development officer of the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Foundation. Van Natta is a past president of the local AFP chapter.

State Farm office relocates within downtown Camas

Friday was moving day for the employees of the downtown Camas State Farm Insurance office. Linda Huff and her staff have relocated from 605 N.E. Third Ave. to 350 N.E. Fourth Ave. The new location includes a larger main level office. Huff's agency has been at the same site for 18 years. That office was previously occupied by Frances Strobeck and her State Farm staff for a decade. Meanwhile, the Focus Designs office has temporarily relocated from 350 N.E. Fourth Ave., to a vacant space next door at 340 N.E. Fourth Ave.

Linear Technology exec named to Workforce Development Council board

The controller of Linear Technology's wafer fabrication plant in Camas is among the newest board members of the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council. Jim Lucey has served as controller for 16 years. He previously was the financial accounting manager at Linear's corporate headquarters in Milpitas, Calif. Lucey is a former accounting manager at Price Waterhouse. He serves on the board of the Association of Washington Business and has been involved with several education and vocation advisory boards, including the Columbia-Willamette Workforce Collaborative Manufacturing Industry Panel and the Clark County Skills Center. Free workshop will be held Thursday

Local business owners and merchants are invited to learn about executing practices for business growth. A Camas man is hoping to make a difference in the lives of people who are visually impaired. Milan Slamka has developed Echo-Sense Network Glasses, also known as "Check Mates." They can be worn by a sight-impaired person, and audio and video information is live streamed to a caregiver on a remote computer. "The caregiver can see what the blind person would see and can give instructions and guidance to the wearer," Slamka said. Leadership Clark County accepts early applications for Class of 2015

Leadership Clark County is accepting early applications for candidates interested in joining the Class of 2015. A free information session will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Educational Services District 112 offices, 2500 N.E. 65th Ave., Vancouver. The free session is an opportunity for candidates to learn more about the program, ask questions, and hear from alumni about their experiences.

The Cats Meow provides boarding, adoption opportunities

Two volunteers with the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, in Washougal, have opened a cat boarding business that also provides feline adoption opportunities. At The Cats Meow Luxury Boarding, Jo Schmidt and Amber Groff offer 19 suites with names such as "Catnip Alley," "Tabby Tavern" and "Pouncing Paradise." Individual studios have sky boxes and climbing structures. The sky boxes provide viewing areas for cats to climb into. The luxury suites include the options of bird viewing areas or flat screen TVs, and the penthouse has a full wall of windows with natural light as well as additional views into the reception area.
