Volunteers needed for July 4 celebration

The Fort Vancouver National Trust is seeking 300 volunteers to lend a hand at Independence Day at Fort Vancouver on Friday, July 4. Last year more than 250 volunteers helped at the event, which was attended by more than 35,000 people.

PubTalk will feature several business pitches

Four area companies will have an opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a judging panel of industry experts at the next Clark County PubTalk. The session, sponsored by the Columbia River Economic Development Council and the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council, will be held Tuesday, June 17, from 5 to 8 p.m., in the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site Artillery Barracks, 600 E. Hatheway Road, Vancouver.

Keith Upkes, president and chief executive officer of The Upkes Group, in Camas, will also talk about getting clear on who you are and who you are not as a company, developing a clear vision of what you need to accomplish in order to grow, and learning strategies to improve profitability.

Volunteers needed to help out at Dozer Days

Volunteers are currently being sought to participate in Dozer Days, which gives kids an opportunity to operate heavy construction equipment and participate in excavation activities. Dozer Days will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Ridgefield. Previously, the event was held at Fisher Quarry near Camas.

Treasure House aims to raise money for van

A local non-profit is working to raise money so that it can purchase a delivery van. The Inter-Faith Treasure House, which serves east Clark County, is currently working to raise at least $5,000 during the next three months to purchase the vehicle. Camas-Washougal Community Chest has offered to match any donations received in May, June and July, up to $5,000.

Chiropractor joins Camas Family Health Center

A chiropractor who specializes in treating the aches and pains that come with athletic pursuits is the newest addition to the staff at Camas Family Health Center. Dr. Bryan Gehm focuses on sports fitness and injuries. "Golf, tennis, softball, baseball, swimming and running are all in full swing," he said. "They are all activities that can bring on injury and discomfort."

Seniors and technology will be focus of documentary at Liberty Theatre

A documentary, to be shown at the Liberty Theatre, will focus on senior citizens discovering the wonders of the Internet with the help of teenage mentors. "Cyber-Seniors" will be shown Thursday, May 1, at 3 p.m., and 5:45 p.m. A mentor/networking party, presented by Camas Technology Specialists, is scheduled to occur from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., in the theater's main auditorium. Admission to the documentary will be $4 per person.
