Michael “Mike” Gallagher, the former publisher of The Camas-Washougal Post-Record, has died.

Gallagher, of Stevenson, died Jan. 26 at the age of 70.

A longtime Post-Record employee, Gallagher was hired as the newspaper’s publisher in 1991, and led the Camas-Washougal Post-Record through June 2014. In 2017, during the Eagle Creek Fire in the Columbia River Gorge, Gallagher again helped The Post-Record by photographing the fire’s devastation from a spot near his home in Skamania County.

During his time with the Camas-Washougal newspaper, Gallagher was an active community volunteer, serving as the president of the Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce in 1996-97, as the president of the Camas-Washougal Community Chest in 1994, as the treasurer of the Camas Citizens for Quality Schools from 1994 to 1997, and as a member of several boards of directors in the 1990s and early 2000s, including for the Camas Downtown Association; the Jack, Will and Rob Center; the Camas Schools Citizens Advisory Committee; and Camas Junior Baseball.

Gallagher’s wife of 42 years, Kelly Gallagher, said Mike loved being an assistant coach for their son’s junior baseball teams.

In 1998, the Camas-Washougal Rotary Club named Gallagher its Citizen of the Year.
Kelly Gallagher said her husband was a lover of animals and often rescued dogs in need. His favorite rescue dogs, Sheila and Toby, passed away recently, but he is survived by two of his most recent rescues, Bubba and Scarlet.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Morrison, and stepfather, Darrell Morrison; his father, Joseph Gallagher, and stepmother Judy Gallagher; and his daughter, Shannon Gallagher. He is survived by his wife, Kelly Gallagher, of Stevenson; daughter, JoAnna Gallagher, and her fiance, Drew Goss, both of Portland; and son, Patrick Gallagher, of Stevenson.
