The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society (WCGHS) is inviting the community and animal lovers everywhere to take a “hike” on the scenic Columbia River dike to help support its work to take in, care for and rehome homeless pets in the Camas-Washougal community.

The “Hike on the Dike” 5K Walk and Festival will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the WCGHS dog shelter, 2695 Index Street, Washougal. Dogs on leash are welcome to join their families for the walk and festival.

Registration costs $20 and can be done online at p2p.onecause.com/hod2024 or onsite the day of the event.

The Hike on the Dike festivities kick-off with the hike at 9:45 a.m. The festivities also include a police K-9 demonstration, a dog kissing booth, free mini-orthopedic knee exams for dogs, a live disc jockey, a dog agility course, rock painting, merchandise sales, complementary espressos, and more.

The event is once again partnering with the All Paws on Deck street fair in downtown Camas, which will be held from 11 a.m. to  2 p.m. All Paws on Deck, put on by Camas High School’s DECA students, features “Dog Mayor for the Day” and doggie costume contest, a dog agility course, food, crafts and more.
