Due to the recent precipitation, lower daily temperatures, and overnight humidity values, the Camas-Washougal Fire Department (CWFD) Fire Chief Cliff Free and Fire Marshal Ron Schumacher have rescinded the current recreational burn ban imposed on July 23.

The CWFD is committed to imposing recreational burn bans only when conditions which support rapid fire growth exist and said this commitment “is predicated on citizens employing good judgment and safe practices in their recreational fire use.” The fire department urges residents to never leave a fire untended, ensure that all fires are completely extinguished, and the ashes are cold and water saturated, and said in a news release that “safe practices in the present ensure the ability to allow recreational fires in the future.”

Clark County also lifted its county-wide burn ban on outdoor, recreational fires in unincorporated Clark County, effective Sept. 17.

To have predictable and consistent burn bans, Clark County, along with other neighboring counties have a policy to ban outdoor burning from July 15 through Sept. 30 each year. Designating this period was based on years of information about fuel conditions. The annual burn ban allows residents to plan to burn during safer times of the year.

Recreational campfires in local county parks and commercial campgrounds are allowed only in approved fire pits.
