An on-duty Camas police officer was involved in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Northwest Lake Road and Northwest Parker Street in Camas Sunday evening.

According to the Camas Police Department, Camas police officer Casey Handley was traveling east on Northwest Lake Road Sunday evening, Sept. 8, when his patrol car collided with a vehicle traveling west on Northwest Lake Road that was attempting to make a left turn toward Northwest Parker Street.

Although both vehicles “sustained extensive damage and were deemed totaled,” all of the people involved in the collision, including Handley, were treated at the scene for minor injuries, according to the Camas Police Department’s news release issued Monday, Sept. 9.

“It was frightening to learn of the collision last night involving one of our Camas (police) officers and seeing the extent of the vehicular damage,” Camas Police Chief Tina Jones stated in the news release, adding she was grateful to the first responders who assisted, including Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency dispatchers, Camas-Washougal Fire Department responders, police officers from the Vancouver, Washougal and Camas police departments, and the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

WSP is leading the investigation into the collision.

“Our team is wishing our officer a speedy recovery,” Jones said.
