The Camas-Washougal Community Chest nonprofit organization has given an emergency $3,500 grant to Akin, a family service organization at the East County Family Resource Center.

Akin put out a public call in October 2024 for food donations to replenish its rapidly-dwindling supplies, which stock a food pantry and the Washougal School District’s backpack program.

CWCC President Dave Pinkernell said Akin Southwest Washington’s regional director, Adrienne Mason, and Akin employee Laura Williams helped the efforts.

“Adrienne showed us how the community has stepped up to stock their weekend backpack program, but their food pantry shelves are still empty. Not for much longer,” Pinkernell said. “Laura mentioned heading to Costco with our grant to stock up their empty pantry shelves.”
