The city of Washougal is preparing its Downtown Community Garden for the 2024 growing season.
“We are currently working on leveling and adding more garden boxes,” according to the City’s website. “Unfortunately, the winter/spring rainfall has led to a delay caused by the ground being too saturated, making it problematic to get the required equipment in to complete the work. Our hope is with the drier and warmer weather we have been experiencing as of late, we will be able to complete the project by the end of (this) week. Once the work is complete, we will begin calling/emailing returning customers for the 2024 growing season.”
The Washougal Parks & Recreation Community Garden program promotes community building, sustainable practices, and ecologically responsible gardening, according to the website.
“Gardeners in the program have the opportunity to grow flowers, fruits, and vegetables in privately leased plots and also cooperate with one another to manage the larger community garden site,” the website states.
The garden is located at 2036 Main Street. To be added to the garden’s wait list, contact Angela Brunelle at 360-835-8501, ext. 201, or angela.brunelle@cityofwashougal.us.
