The Washougal Police Department (WPD) will ring in the new year with a new leader.
WPD Chief Wendi Steinbronn has announced her retirement, effective Dec. 31, 2024. She will be replaced by Captain Zane Freschette, according to Washougal City Manager David Scott.
“I have decided to retire after many fulfilling years in law enforcement,” Steinbronn said. “I have cherished my time here and will deeply miss our incredible team, and I am immensely proud of our achievements.”
The City hired Steinbronn to replace Ron Mitchell as WPD chief in 2019. For the previous 25 years, she worked for the Portland Police Bureau (PBB), first as an officer, then sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and finally commander of the PBB’s North Precinct.
Steinbronn has been “an integral part of the department’s growth and success, leaving a lasting legacy of commitment and professionalism,” according to the City.
