Camas Mayor Steve Hogan has named Saturday, Dec. 7, “Interservice Walk and Knock Day.”
The mayor noted during the Camas City Council’s regular meeting on Monday, Dec. 2, that the annual Interservice Walk and Knock of Clark County, held the first Saturday in December for the past 39 years, “is the largest local one-day food drive in the United States.”
The food drive event, which collects non-perishable goods from local homes throughout Clark County on Saturday, Dec. 7, to be distributed to the Clark County Food Bank and North County Community Food Bank, has collected 9.51 million pounds of food valued at $17.3 million. In 2023, the food drive collected more than 271,000 pounds of non-perishable food and $20,000 in donations for Clark County families and individuals in need.
The annual Walk and Knock event relies on volunteers, including civic clubs, Scouts, the Clark County Amateur Radio Club, church groups, neighborhood associations, senior groups, schools, local businesses and other nonprofits.
