A day of summer fun on Lacamas Lake in Camas turned deadly this week after two personal watercraft vehicles collided, throwing a woman and 10-year-old child into the water.

Police say Angela Narciso, 48, of Vancouver, died Thursday, Aug. 8, following the collision between the watercraft. A 10-year-old child and the driver of the second personal watercraft were uninjured. Police said Narciso knew other watercraft driver, who has not yet been identified.

Camas police and first-responders from the Camas-Washougal Fire Department responded to reports of a collision between two personal watercrafts around 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Police said Friday that a boater in the area was able to pull Narciso and the child, who were both wearing personal flotation devices, from the water and “performed lifesaving efforts” on Narciso. First responders transported Narciso to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police reported Friday, Aug. 9, that the driver of the other watercraft stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of this deadly outcome from what should have been a fun summer day on our beautiful lake,” Camas Police Chief Tina Jones stated in a news release issued Friday, Aug. 9. “Condolences to the family and friends impacted by this loss. We have heard of several water-related fatal incidents this summer in the region, and it is a sober reminder for everyone to take precautions. Please operate vessels safely, wear personal flotation devices, take a boater safety class, have all the required safety equipment, be aware of others in the water, and get up to date on CPR. We appreciate the technical support from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Unit as we navigate this investigation.”

The Camas Police Department with the assistance of the county marine patrol unit, is investigating the incident and has asked witnesses who have not already contacted police to call or email Camas Police Sgt. Stefan Hausinger at 360-817-1503 or SHausinger@cityofcamas.us
