Washougal boys wrestling team wins invite

The Washougal High School boys and girls wrestling teams wrapped up their last regular-season tournaments Jan. 25 as they prepare for the postseason.

The Panthers girls finished second out of 16 teams in the Fort Vancouver Trapper Invitational. Lillian Mucha, Ashley Garrison and Josalyn Ortiz were all crowned champions.

The Washougal boys finished first out of nine teams at the Columbia Gorge Invitational. The Panthers had seven finalists, six of whom won titles — Luke Golsphenee (the winner of the tournament’s outstanding wrestler award), Blake Mattern, Scott Lees, Gus Shelley, Korben Modoc and Andrew Darr.

Two Papermaker grapplers win titles at Bearcat

Porter Craig and Colby Stoller won individual championships for the Camas wrestling team at the Bearcat Invite in Chehalis on Jan. 25.

The Papermakers will take on rival Union on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Camas boys swim team wins meet

The Camas boys swimming and diving team came out on top at a meet held at the Cascade Athletic Club in Vancouver on Jan. 25.

Jack Harris finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 51.66 seconds. In the 400 freestyle relay, the Papermakers’ team of Ben Taylor, Harris, Isaac Yim and Josef Kiesenhofer won with a time of 3:37.89.

Another win for Camas gymnasts

The Camas gymnastics team racked up another win, beating Mountain View 178.95-141.65 on Jan. 25. The Papermakers have two meets left before the postseason.

Camas girls basketball team falls to Union

The Camas girls basketball team lost to Union 51-41 on Jan. 24.

The Titans held Camas’ Faith Bergstrom to only seven points, much different than the 24 points and 17 rebounds she had in the teams’ first meeting.

The loss puts the Papermakers (10-7 overall) at 3-2 in 4A Greater St. Helens League play, tied with Union for second place behind 5-0 Skyview.

Camas boys basketball no match for Union

The Union boys basketball team ran away to a 81-53 victory over Camas on Jan. 24.

The Titans’ Kaden Horn hit 9 of 15 shots from the field, scoring 29 points.

The Papermakers’ Jackson Clemmer had 12 points.

Washougal boys basketball team rebounds for win

The Washougal boys basketball team returned to its winning ways with a 63-54 victory over Mark Morris on Jan. 24 after losing its previous two games to Mark Morris and Columbia River. The Panthers’ Donovan Bailey had a career night with 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
