Sports briefs for Nov. 21: CHS diver takes 5th at state

CHS diver finishes 5th at state meet

The Camas High School girls swimming and diving team finished ninth at the 4A state championship meet, held at the King County Aquatics Center in Federal Way, Washington, on Nov 16.

CHS was led by Irelyn McGee, who finished fifth in the diving competition.

The Papermakers’ 200 free relay team of Paeton Lesser, Bailey Segall, Ashlyn Burgener and Hope Yim finished eighth. Their 200 medley team of Mia Kamenko, Campbell Deringer, Segall and Lesser finished ninth; and their 400 free relay team (Yim, Burgener, Deringer and Segall) finished 14th.

Lesser finished 14th in the 200 individual medley and 12th in the 100 freestyle. Burgener was 12th in the 50 freestyle, and Deringer was 11th in the 100 breaststroke. Shaelyne McGee placed 15th in the diving competition.

In the 2A meet, also held Nov. 16 in Federal Way, Washougal High School’s 200 medley relay team of Charlotte Baker, Kaylyn Schmid, Krya Schmid and Lily Seitz finished 15th. Schmid finished 16th in the 50 freestyle, and Kaylyn Schmid, Kyra Schmid, Baker and Seitz were 13th in the 200 freestyle relay.

WHS runners place at state meet

Two WHS runners placed in the top 25 at the 2A girls state cross country meet, held Nov. 9 at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Sydnee Boothby finished 19th, and Savea Mansfield placed 23rd.

WHS runner Jackson Keyser finished 20th in the 2A boys race.

Camas pee-wee team to play in regional title game

The Camas Jets pee-wee football team will play in a regional championship game in Seattle on Nov. 24.

If the Jets win, they’ll advance to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s World Youth Football Championship, to be held in December in Canton, Ohio.

The sixth- and seventh-graders are also successful in the classroom, maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.74 this season.
