More work to be done for children in poverty

There is much to be done to help children have a good future in both America and our world. (“Congresswoman’s bipartisan bill helps families, children” letter by Brad Jensen published in the May 30, 2019, Camas-Washougal Post-Record)

With 21 percent of America’s children growing up in poverty, often without health care, and wondering about their next meal, there is work for all of us. Grateful that Rep. Herrera Beutler cares about these matters and has introduced a bipartisan bill to make health care more convenient. Now it is time to deal with the underlying causes of hunger and poverty in our country. Increasing the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit can help, if they are targeted on those most in need. As will more affordable housing, with currently not one state having enough for those in poverty.

So thank the congresswoman for her work and ask her to do more to end the blight of child poverty in the world’s wealthiest country.
