Milton H. Ferguson
Feb. 14, 1948 ~ Nov. 6, 2017

Milton H. Ferguson, known as Fergy to his family and friends, passed peacefully on Nov. 6, 2017, in Vancouver, WA, at Peacehealth Washington. Fergy was born on Feb. 14, 1948, in Camas, WA.

In 1965, Fergy enlisted in the US Army and was active for his full term. He was a Rifle Expert and received a Medal in Defense. Was First Cav in Tank Division. While stationed in Germany, he met his first love, Claudia Hahn, married and had his first born Douglas. The family settled in Camas and had daughter Sylvia. They later divorced but remained friends.

After Fergy was discharged, he started a career with Crown Zellerbach for many years and transferred to Fiberweb in Washougal and retired after 35 years.

First and foremost, Ferg loved his family, Harleys, music, living on the Washougal River, flying his model airplanes, storytelling, being with all his close friends (his brotherhood), but most importantly his soulmate, Sue.

Ferg and Sue loved, rode and cherished many memories for 26 years. They married June 7, 1997, and enjoyed his blended family that included parties, holidays, sporting events, beach trips, gardening and the quiet times they had together.

Fergy is survived by his wife, Sue, former wife, Candy, son, Douglas H. Ferguson, daughter, Sylvia K. Swiger. Grandson, Cody Dolan. Granddaughters, Khyla C. Ferguson, Alyssa M. Swiger. Stepson, Mike V. Ostrom, stepdaughter, Nikki Bland. Grandchildren include Ciara Blair, Haley Ostrom, Dylan Ostrom, Olivia Ostrom and Samantha Bland and his angel in heaven, Lacey Ostrom, and five great-grandsons. Brothers, Ed Croll, Leonard Ferguson, Richard Tuttle and sister, Dolly Cantrell. Predeceased by Sonny Ferguson, Patricia Croll and Arlene. He had many nieces and nephews. Last but not least, his fluffy companion, Tootsie.

At his request, there will be a celebration of life for all to be listed at a later date.

Curtis Earl Hughey
March 29, 1929 ~ Nov. 19, 2017

Curtis passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, and joins Beverley in the arms of our Lord. “Curt” has two kids, Mark and Carolyn, five grandkids (Ivan, Russell, Tracy, Amanda, and William, eight great-grandkids, and one great-great-grandchild. His brother Roland lives in North Carolina.

Born in Brooklyn, Curt came out to Camas in approximately 1945 to live with Grandma Asher and graduate from Camas High School. Continuing to Clark College, he found Beverley and got married. He loved to hunt and fish. He was a Boy Scout leader young in life and later became a Little League and Babe Ruth coach. He was proud to have helped establish the Fern Prairie Fire Department and served 30 years as its secretary.

Upon completing a career as a millwright at the Camas paper mill, he became involved with the Camas-Washougal Historical Society, serving 16 years as its president. Curt and Bev were selected as Mr. and Mrs. Camas for Camas Days in 2003.

Friends are invited to attend Curt’s service at Brown’s Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 27, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C-W Historical Society.

Doris J. ‘Dory’ Brooking

Doris Jane Brooking, also known as Dory, died at her Camas-Vancouver area home, surrounded by her seven surviving children, on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017. She was 94.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., Camas.

Memorial donations in Dory’s name may be made to The Columbia Land Trust, 850 Officers Row, Vancouver, WA 98661 or to PeaceHealth Southwest Hospice and Homecare Foundation, P.O. Box 2516, Vancouver, WA 98668.

Gyla Y. Murdock

Gyla Y. Murdock died on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, in Camas. She was 89.
