Local teams fare well at regional Science Olympiad

Clark College releases standings from March 4 competition

Teams from local middle and high schools placed in the top six at the regional Science Olympiad competition, held March 4, at Clark College.

Hundreds of young science enthusiasts from around the region convened on the Clark main campus to compete in the 2017 Southwest Washington Regional Science Olympiad Tournament.

The following teams will advance to the state competition on April 15 at Highline College in Des Moines.

Middle school, B division: First place, Skyridge (Blue Team); second place, Liberty (Black Team), third place, Skyridge (Green Team); fourth place, Jason Lee (Red Team); fifth place, ExCEL.

High school, C Division: First place, Camas (black team); second place, Camas (red team), third place, Woodinville; fourth place, Union; fifth place, Skyline; and sixth place, Washougal.

In all, 20 middle school and 18 high school teams competed in the Olympiad’s 48 different events. They came to compete from as far north as La Push, Wash., and as far south as Corvallis, Ore.

More than 130 volunteers, most of them Clark College students, employees, and alumni, helped make the event possible.
