This young Washougal High School girls basketball team is off to a thrilling start in league.

Mark Morris and Hockinson have been a thorn in the side of the Panthers, but not in the last two games.

Freshman Mason Oberg scored 21 points, picked seven steals and dished four assists to lead Washougal to a 57-54 victory against the Monarchs Tuesday, in Longview.

Sophomore Beyonce Bea added nine points. McKinley Stotts netted six, and Tianna Barnett and Kaitlyn Reijonen had five.

The Panthers erased a seven-point deficit in the second quarter to lead 25-20 at halftime. Oberg hit two threes in the quarter, and finished with five baskets from behind the arc in the game.

Washougal defeated Hockinson 52-34 Jan. 4, in Hockinson.

Bea scored 19 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Toryi Midland added 12 points. The Panthers built a 39-20 advantage after three quarters.

Washougal is 4-0 in league. The Panthers head to Columbia River and host Woodland, before starting the second run through league.
