PAID OBITUARY

Doris Rebecca Leith
May 12, 1924 ~ February 12, 2017

Doris Rebecca Leith passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at the age of 92 years. Left to celebrate her life are her children, Dayle (Chuck) Neale, David (Joy) Leith, Karen (Bill) Nelson, and Julie Sardinha; 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by her husband Jim (2014) and son-in-law Joe (2013).

Doris was born on May 12, 1924, in Matsqui, British Columbia, to parents, Frank and Gladys Beharrell, and grew up on their dairy farm. In 1943, while riding the MacDonald bus to work each morning in Vancouver, Doris caught the eye of a handsome young UBC engineer named Jim Leith. Doris and Jim were married on September 15, 1945. Together they raised 4 children and moved 13 times before settling in their home on Giant’s Head Road in Summerland, British Columbia, in 1995.

Doris enjoyed many hobbies and was a skilled card player, gardener, seamstress and cook, but her greatest joy was found in her family.

Always best together, Doris and Jim began the final phase of their lives together in late 2008, when they both entered 24 hour residential care. In early March 2009, Doris and Jim moved into Summerland Senior’s Village where, for the last eight years, they have received kind and gentle care from people who have become like family to those of us who loved them. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Summerland Senior’s Village. Your care made a difference.

Doris’ family and friends will gather in the summer to celebrate her life.

I have loved.

I have been loved.

The sun has caressed my face.

Life, you owe nothing.

Life, we are at peace.

Condolences may be directed to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com, 250-494-7752.
