Candidate forums will be held in Clark, Skamania counties

Youth Advisory Council schedules event for Oct. 10 in Camas

With the General Election just a little more than a month away, local residents can look forward to a series of candidate forums in October.

The events will feature candidates running for positions including Clark County councilor, 18th legislative district senator and representative and Third Congressional District representative.

According to the Clark County Elections Office, ballots for the Nov. 8 General Election will be mailed Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Forums currently scheduled include:

League of Women Voters of Clark County forums

The League of Women Voters of Clark County will host two forums in anticipation of the General Election.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Cedars Golf Course Restaurant, 15001 N.E. 81st St., Brush Prairie, candidates for positions in the 18th Legislative District, Clark County Council District 4, and Clark Public Utilities commission will be featured.

This forum is co-sponsored with the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce.

Those who would like to attend can pre-register for lunch through the chamber at 687-1510. Cost is $17 for chamber members and $20 for non-members.

The public is welcome. There will be seating available for those who would like to attend, but do not want to purchase lunch.

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Cascade Park Library, 600 N.E. 136th Ave., Vancouver, candidates for the 49th and 17th legislative districts and Clark County Council District 3 races will participate in a forum.

Both events will include a panel of each group of candidates, answering questions from a LWVCC moderator. The candidates will receive a list of possible questions 30 minutes before the forum begins.

Camas Youth Council Candidate Forum

The Camas Youth Advisory Council Candidate Forum is set for Monday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m., inside the Camas High School auditorium, 26900 S.E. 15th St.

The event will feature candidates running for positions in the 18th Legislative District, Third Congressional District, and Clark County Council District 4.

CHS students who are part of CYAC will moderate the forum and ask the questions.

Clark County Mayor’s Candidate Forum

A Clark County Mayor’s Candidate Forum will be held Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m., at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St.

Each candidate for state offices in the 17th, 18th and 49th districts will answer questions focusing on issues relevant to the state’s cities.

Skamania County Candidate Night

The West End Skamaia County Candidate Night will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m., at the American Legion Post 122 meeting hall, 10221 Washougal River Road.

Invited to attend are candidates running for positions including Skamania County commissioner, Skamania Public Utility District commissioner, 14th Legislative District representative, and Third Congressional District representative.

Candidates will have the opportunity to make brief presentations, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The event is being co-sponsored by the Skamania County republican and democratic parties.
