Firefighters battle garage fire in Camas

Nearly 40 firefighters from three departments responded to a garage fire in Camas Friday morning.

Camas-Washougal Fire Department crews were dispatched to reports of a garage on fire at 4108 N.W. McIntosh Road at 8:07 a.m. According to a press release, the two residents had noticed smoke outside the kitchen window, evacuated the home and called 911.

When crews arrived on the scene they found an attached garage fully involved in fire. Fire fighting efforts were complicated by the lack of a nearby water supply. Approximately 1,500 feet of 5-inch hose was required to reach the nearest fire hydrant. The fire was extinguished within approximately 30 minutes.

While there was smoke throughout the structure, the fire did not extend into the 8,000 square-foot, 1950s-built home.

On scene were 10 units from the CWFD, Vancouver Fire Department and East County Fire and Rescue, including three battalion chiefs and 36 personnel.

According to CWFD Chief Nick Swinhart, there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

CWFD is investigating the cause of the blaze.
