The winter high school sports season ended with a major splash of orange and black as the Washougal High School girls basketball team made history when the Panthers captured a fourth-place trophy in the 2A state tournament at the Yakima Sun Dome.
It was a season to remember for this group of girls who put their hearts and souls into every minute they spent playing on the court, or sitting on the sidelines cheering on and encouraging their teammates.
But as the season officially changes to spring this Sunday, so too will come another transition in the world of local high school sports. Athletes who spent their time competing primarily indoors will venture outside, rain or shine, to take to the fields, tracks, courses and courts for soccer, baseball, softball, track, golf and tennis.
And, the Post-Record will be right there, on the sidelines, documenting the successes and challenges of the Camas and Washougal high school athletes, in words and photographs.
To start it all off right, in today’s edition of the Post-Record readers will find the annual Spring Sports Preview special section. Inside are details about all of the local high school sports teams, including team overviews, and comments from coaches and athletes regarding their goals and predictions for the upcoming season.
All signs point to what will likely be an active and exciting season ahead. If the success of the area’s winter high school sports teams is any indication, fans are in for some fun.
