Camas and Washougal are wonderful places to live, work and play. But every once in a while, it’s nice to jump beyond the boundaries of these two small towns and take in all that Southwest Washington has to offer.

And beyond those boundaries, there is so much to explore, experience and learn.

With that in mind, the Camas-Washougal Post-Record has put together “Great Getaways.” The special section, which can be found inserted into today’s newspaper, includes photos, articles and details about places local residents can visit that are just a short drive away — perfect for a day trip or a weekend escape.

The Post-Record news staff selected several of the area’s highlights. Some sites were chosen for their sheer beauty, while others were picked because they offer opportunities to learn about local history, taste some unique fare, or take in some culture. Destinations featured include Stevenson, the Cedar Creek Grist Mill, Mount St. Helens, Maryhill Museum of Art, Gorge hikes and the Skamania Lodge Zip Line and soon-to-be-open tree houses.

With the official arrival of summer, the next two months provide the perfect opportunity to get out and explore. Get a sample of what the area has to offer in the Post-Record’s Great Getaways special section.
