Prestige Care hires new administrator at Camas facility

A man who studied the mechanics and anatomy of human muscles in college is the new administrator at Prestige Care and Rehabilitation — Camas.

Mattson Kistrup, 42, has a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge.

He moved from Louisiana to Camas in August, in order to spend more time snow skiing, mountain biking, hiking and camping.

“I was looking for a four-season state where I can enjoy outdoor activities,” Kistrup said.

He succeeds Michael Moses, a regional director for Life Care Centers of America.

Kistrup has been a nursing facility administrator since September 2010.

One year before that, he visited an elderly friend who had fractured a hip. Kistrup said the nursing facility that his friend was in was dirty and did not provide good care.

His friend was moved to another facility, which Kistrup said was clean, the care was exceptional and the staff members were happy.

“I was confused how one facility could be so different versus another facility right down the road,” he said.

Kistrup met with the administrator of the second facility, and he realized the owner and upper management set the tone for how it runs and takes care of its residents.

“I decided then that I wanted to become an administrator of a nursing facility, so I had an opportunity to make a difference in the experience family members, residents and patients have when they come to a nursing facility,” he said.

Prestige Care and Rehabilitation — Camas, 740 N.E. Dallas St., has a long-term care wing for people who need 24-hour nursing care. Staff also provides post-acute care work, such as rehabilitation and nursing care after a stay in the hospital for a stroke or recovery from a surgery, after an illness or for management of a chronic disease. Services include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and restorative nursing.
