Interviews for Port seat are Sept. 15

The Port of Camas-Washougal Commission has decided to interview all eight applicants for the vacant District 1 seat.

During a special meeting Thursday, Bill Ward and Bill Macrae-Smith directed Executive Director David Ripp to contact all of the applicants for interviews.

The interviews will occur during a special meeting open to the public Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m., in the port office meeting room, 24 S. “A” St., Washougal. Each interview is expected to take approximately 30 minutes.

An executive session could be held after the interviews. Ripp said “call back” interviews would be held Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 10 a.m., if needed.

The appointment is expected to occur during the commission’s next regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 5 p.m.

The applicants are Mike Briggs, Nicholas Brown, Lauren Colas, Mark Forbes, Paul Greenlee, Kelly Orfield, John Spencer and Barry Sullivan.

“I am thrilled with the number of applicants,” Ward said, during the Sept. 1 meeting. “It reflects well on the quality of people willing to apply. The credentials are high.

“I am looking forward to continuing a team effort,” he added.

Briggs is a former IRS auditor, who served on the Washougal Planning Commission in 2009 and was a candidate for the 18th District state representative seat in 2014.

Brown is the funeral director of Straub’s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation, in Camas, and All County Cremation and Burial Services, in Vancouver. He has been a board member for the Camas Athletics Booster Club since 2010.

Colas is a business consultant and coordinator of the Camas Community Garden. In the November 2014 general election, she lost to incumbent Doug Lasher for the position of Clark County treasurer.

Forbes is a content manager for corporate marketing at Mentor Graphics Corporation, in Wilsonville, Oregon. He is a former secretary of the Lookout Ridge Homeowner’s Association who previously served as president of the Rocklin School Board, in California.

Greenlee is an eight-year member of the Washougal City Council who was a board member of the Association of Washington Cities Employee Benefits Trust for five years. The former Washougal planning commissioner serves on the steering committee of the UNITE! Washougal Community Coalition.

Orfield has worked for Banfield Pet Hospitals, of Portland, for 15 years, currently as the commercial vice president. He is a founding director of a local chapter of Royal Family Kids camp, which helps abused and neglected children in the foster care system.

Spencer, a management consultant with Pulse Consulting, LLC, of Camas, is a member of the Clark County Parks Advisory Board. He served as city administrator of North Bonneville, from 2010 to 2013.

Sullivan is an owner/operator of Grocery Outlet, in Vancouver. He served on the C-Tran Fourth Plain Transit Improvement Project Corridor Advisory Committee.

District 1 Commissioner Mark Lampton died Aug. 3. The appointed person would be expected to finish Lampton’s term, through Dec. 31, 2017.
