Local students are winners in photo contest

Work will be displayed at New Seasons through the end of June

Two Camas High School students are winners in the 2015 Columbia Gorge Refuge Stewards Youth Photo Contest.

Stephanie Schuldt earned second-place with her great blue heron photo and Donovan MacGowan took third-place with a hummingbird photo.

The winning photos will be displayed at New Seasons, 2100 S.E. 164th Ave., Vancouver, for the remainder of June.

The first-place photo of geese fighting was taken by Gabriel Miklja of Union High School.

Honorable Mentions included shots by Ella Chedester, Westview High School; Zhengyi Chen, Union High School; Gregory Lipkin, Liberty Middle School; Emily Lutz, Wilson High School; Dehlia Shaw, Da Vinci Arts School; Maggie Short, Camas High School; Sierra Woodard, Shahala Middle School; and Donavan MacGowan.

The first-place winner receives a GoPro camera from contest sponsor Pro Photo Supply in Portland. Second-place, a $75 gift certificate from Pro Photo, and third-place receives a $50 gift certificate. Honorable mentions receive $25 gift certificates from Pro Photo Supply. All winners are awarded a one-year family membership in the Columbia Gorge Refuge Stewards.

Forty-two area students submitted 187 entries in the contest.

In July, the photos will be moved to the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave. Torque Coffee Roasters, 1700 Main St., Ste. 130, in Washougal, will display the photos in August.
