Several school districts in the Columbia River Gorge announced closures for Wednesday, in the wake of icy weather conditions.
Washougal School District schools are closed today, due to inclement weather and unsafe driving conditions. There will be no Skills Center bus, and no Head Start, preschool or special education preschool. In addition, all before- and after-school programs are canceled, including community education classes and athletics.
Other area school districts closed Wednesday include Mount Pleasant, Skamania 2, Stevenson-Carson and Mill A.
On Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service issued and ice storm warning for the west Columbia River Gorge, that was to run through 6 p.m. Wednesday. Icy conditions hit the area late last night, but the warning has now been canceled.
Conditions farther into the Columbia River Gorge will continue to be treacherous. A freezing rain advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday, for the Gorge, Hood River Valley and the valleys below 2,500 feet in the Cascades and Skamania County.
Low temperatures are predicted to be in the low 30s, which high temperatures reaching into the low 40s. There are east wind gusts up to 45 mph.
