Utica College announces dean’s list

A Camas student has been named to the spring 2015 dean’s high honors list at Utica College in Utica, New York.

Charlene M. Blank earned a GPA of 4.0. She is a cybersecurity and information assurance major.

Preschool open house set

Washougal Community Education is hosting a preschool open house Thursday. Prospective preschoolers will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and meet teachers.

Open house events will be hosted at the following locations:

Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School, 9731 Washougal River Road, 4 to 6 p.m., Room 135.

Gause Elementary School, 1100 34th St., 4 to 5:30 p.m., Room 111.

Hathaway Elementary School, 630 24th St., Portable C, 4 to 5 p.m.

Page Turner book selected

The Page Turner Book Discussion Group, for those in fourth-grade and older, and their parents, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave.

Participants sign out a copy of the book before the meeting, read it and then discuss it at the meeting, which includes snacks and an activity.

September’s book is, “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” by C.S. Lewis.

Summer reading program announces top 10

The Camas Public Library has announced its final statistics from the recently completed summer reading program.

Ethan Abraham and Alison Yan are the bike raffle winners this year.

The top 10 youth readers are: Chao-yu Ling, 285 hours; Lucy Webster, 210 hours; Henry Webster, 210 hours; Tyler Collins, 180.9 hours; Joseph Gourley, 167.5 hours; Mia Lin, 156.45 hours; Hana Kawamura, 141 hours; Ayla Crowell, 133 hours; Sarah Gourley, 123.75 hours and Josh May, 116 hours.

Total registrations in the program, which included all ages, was 2,684. Total hours read were 34,878.

Registrants by school included: Camas High, 77; Dorothy Fox Elementary, 173; Grass Valley Elementary. 204; Hayes Freedom High, 4; Helen Baller Elementary, 278; home schooled, 135; Lacamas Heights Elementary, 116; Liberty Middle, 141; non-Camas school, 478; not in school yet, 283; other Camas school, 107; Prune Hill Elementary, 219; Skyridge Middle, 169; Woodburn Elementary, 147.

Hours read by school include the following: Camas High, 2,092; Dorothy Fox, 2,543; Grass Valley, 2,272; Hayes Freedom, 146; Helen Baller, 2,537; homeschooled, 3,687; Lacamas Heights, 1,532; Liberty, 2,019; not in school yet, 5,981; other Camas school, 2,521; Prune Hill, 2,518; Skyridge, 3,254 and Woodburn, 1,661.
