With warmer weather on the horizon, Caryn and Clark Vitek are ready to serve a grand opening for their new indoor tennis facility in Camas.
The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, from noon to 5 p.m., at the Evergreen Tennis Center, 5225 N.W. 38th Ave. Players of all ages can participate in exhibition matches and other events on the four courts.
“We wanted to play more tennis and we wanted our kids to learn tennis, but having to drive across town was an exercise in frustration,” Caryn said. “We started thinking, why aren’t there any options on the east side of town?”
The facility is hard to miss at 45 feet high and more than 200 feet long. Sunlight travels through a semi-translucent ceiling to create a naturally lit environment.
“It’s a lot like playing outside, minus the wind and rain,” Clark said.
At night, the courts are lit up by low-power indirect LED fixtures. This lightweight design has been used for tennis internationally by Team Australia, the Beijing Olympics and Wimbledon Center Court, which is covered by a retractable roof that keeps rain out but allows natural light in.
