Students and families enjoy 'Jugglemania' performance

Washougal students and families enjoyed a combination of skillful juggling, demonstrations and learning about the laws of gravity at Rhys Thomas’ “Jugglemania” performance July 7 at Hathaway Elementary School.

This was the first of five free events this summer that are open to the public and held in the Hathaway School gym located at 630 24th St., Washougal.

After the show, lunch was served as a part of the free summer food program for children ages 1 to 18, which will run through Aug. 15.

Breakfast is available Mondays through Thursdays, from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Lunch is available Mondays through Fridays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. All food must be consumed on site.

Upcoming free events include the following:

o Oregon Coast Aquarium: 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31. Children will learn about seals, sea lions and sea otters and how they have adapted to survive the harsh environment of the northern Pacific.

o Smarty Pants Theatre program: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6. Participants will earn an “I’m a Smarty Pants” badge by demonstrating knowledge about nutrition, physical activity, green living and more.

o OMSI Science Festival: Noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12. Attendees can participate in educational science demonstrations such as constructing a dinosaur skeleton, digging for fossils and learning how magnets work.
