A day for revenge ended in disappointment after the Camas volleyball team lost to Emerald Ridge in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament Friday, at St. Martin’s University, in Lacey.
The Papermakers snipped at the Jaguars’ heels several times during the three sets, but they could never get over the hump against the team that defeated them for third place in the bi-district tournament.
Lauren Harris delivered eight kills in the match, and Cassie Bailie added six kills and seven digs. Carly Banks earned three blocks at the net, Christina Elliott dished out 18 assists and Abby Young had 13 digs.
The Papermakers turned Mead away in three sets during the first round. Mead knocked Camas into the loser’s bracket of the state tournament in 2012.
After carving up the first set 25-19, Camas battled back from six points down to win the second set 25-15. The third set was tied 10-10, until Kathleen Brumfield served five aces. The Papermakers sealed the sweep with a 25-17 victory.
