Welcome to sudden death football.
Washougal, Aberdeen and Hockinson will fight for the 2A Greater St. Helens League’s final playoff spot Tuesday night, in Kelso.
The three teams will face each other in a round robin format. One team starts with the football on the 25-yard line, while the other plays defense. Touchdowns or field goals are the name of the game. The rounds continue until one team prevents the other from tying the score, or takes the lead after making a stop.
Hockinson defeated Washougal 27-14 Friday, at Fishback Stadium.
The Hawks scored a touchdown on their first snap of the game. Bobby Jacobs and Chase Duey hooked up on two touchdown passes to give the Panthers a 14-7 lead. Both teams went into the locker room with the game tied 14-14 at halftime.
Hockinson scored two touchdowns in the second half and intercepted a Washougal pass in the end zone. The Panthers fought hard to move the ball down the field, but couldn’t put any more points on the board.
