Camas bank robbery suspect surrenders

The man believed to be responsible for robbing the U.S. Bank in downtown Camas remains in the Multnomah County Jail after he turned himself in to police.

Christopher A. Arrington, of Washougal, surrendered himself to the Multnomah County Jail, Wednesday, at approximately 5 p.m.

His description and several photos were released to local media outlets Tuesday, and the Camas Police Department started to receive tips from the community soon after. Beginning Wednesday morning, those tips led detectives to Arrington.

According to the CPD, Arrington has a criminal history in Oregon and Washington and detectives found that he had valid arrest warrants out of each state.

Some information led investigators to believe that Arrington may have known the police had identified him and that he was wanted in connection with the bank robbery. Detectives had developed information that Arrington might be in Portland.

To help follow up on the leads that were coming into the police department, Camas detectives asked for assistance from the Vancouver Police Department’s Neighborhood Response Team.

The multi-jurisdictional team consists of detectives — some have police authority in Oregon.

Wednesday afternoon, NRT detectives located the vehicle used in the robbery parked in North Portland.

After Arrington turned himself in, detectives continued to work the case late throughout Wednesday evening, conducting searches and interviewing people. A search warrant, connected to the robbery, was executed at Arrington’s home.

He is currently awaiting extradition to Clark County. An arrest warrant for Arrington has been issued by the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for one count of first degree robbery.

CPD officials credit other area law enforcement agencies, as well as the media and citizens for helping with the case and indentifying the suspect.

“The CPD thanks the Washougal Police Department, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Vancouver Police Department for their initial response to the robbery,” the release states. “In addition, the Vancouver Police Neighborhood Response Team was helpful in the location and apprehension of Arrington.”

The U.S. Bank branch, located at 430 N.E. Adams St., was robbed at approximately 12:20 p.m. A white male approached a teller inside the bank and demanded money from her till. A weapon was implied, but not seen. The teller gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and he fled the area in a green mini-van.

Police K-9 dogs were used in an unsuccessful attempt to locate the suspect.
