Sarah McGuire has opened Echo Resale, in downtown Washougal. The new business has clothing, toys, books, music accessories and records. McGuire is seeking sweaters, coats, sporting goods, tools, DVDs, yarn and other craft supplies. "Downtown Washougal is on the cusp of having all a town needs and wants, with the bonus of being driven by local small businesses," McGuire said. "There are good places to eat, shop and interact with others. It's our hope that Echo Resale will be one more component to a rich hometown economy."

A new shop features a wide variety of items — new and used — in downtown Washougal.

During business hours, visitors at Echo Resale can peruse racks of clothing in front of waterskis, a wakeboard and a children’s-sized kayak on display outside.

Inside, there is more clothing, shoes and accessories for men, women and children, as well as games, toys, books, dishes, fashion jewelry, baby blankets and cat carriers. In the arts and crafts section, there are fabrics, yarn, paints, art sets and stamps to use on cards.

Sarah McGuire is the store’s owner or “bargain huntress,” as she lists her title on a business card.

She opened Echo Resale, in mid-October.

McGuire and her family, originally from Vancouver, moved from Portland to Washougal during the summer.

“I wanted to be close to my home, kids, schools and the downtown area,” she said. “Everyone has been really great at welcoming me here. I feel a part of the community already.

“I have come out of some big life transitions and thought Washougal would be a good place to raise my kids,” McGuire added. “I’m excited to see how Washougal is choosing to manage its growth. It’s a beautiful place and seems very supportive of local shops.”

Echo Resale features a “listening station,” where people can hear records, tapes and CDs.

“Records have been doing well,” McGuire said.

There are records by Sonny & Cher, Rush, Bob Dylan, and Simon & Garfunkel, as well as Northwest artists such as Mister Tang, of Vancouver, and The Helio Sequence, of Portland.

McGuire’s goals for the shop include creating a local music section, with CDs, tapes, vinyl records, T-shirts and appearances by musicians.

The shop sells and consigns new and used music accessories. An amp is available to use in the store, to try out the guitars in stock.

Echo Resale, 2103 Main St., is open Wednesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 553-8861, email contact@shopechoresale.com or visit www.shopechoresale.com.
