River HomeLink parent informational meeting set

Parents of present and prospective students in the River HomeLink program of the Battle Ground School District are invited to an upcoming meeting to learn about programs that will be offered in the 2012-13 school year.

River HomeLink is a parent-partnered program. It serves families looking for a non-traditional schooling environment or those who homeschool part-time, but want their children to attend one or more classes, programs or services offered by River HomeLink.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at 610 S.W. Eaton Blvd., Battle Ground.

Meeting set this week for East Coast middle school student trip

Parents of seventh-grade students at Liberty and Skyridge middle schools are invited to a meeting in the Skyridge library, 5220 N.W. Parker St., at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The purpose is to learn more about the eighth-grade East Coast trip in June 2013. Flyers about the meeting are located in the Skyridge or Liberty middle school offices.

DECA students work on national financial fitness campaign

Camas High School’s DECA chapter sent Shiraz Batroukh and Honor Stevenson to Seattle as presenters at the annual Money Smart Week kickoff luncheon.

Money Smart Week began in 2002, as an annual campaign run by the Chicago Federal Reserve promoting financial awareness.

The event aims to create an opportunity for financial representatives, teachers, government agencies, non-profit organizations, financial counselors, and local businesses to come together and share experiences and ideas to create more equipped financial programs, both in education and in business.

Now in its 10th year, it is a national campaign, implemented by regional Federal Reserves all over the country and was held April 21-28.

Stevenson and Batroukh were part of the San Francisco Federal Reserve’s keynote presentation at the luncheon April 21. They presented with Moonjar’s CEO and founder, Mary Ryan Karges, as well as Eulalie Scandiuzzi, an associate of Moonjar. Moonjar is a company which strives to “bring financial literacy to children and families around the globe.”

Among those attending the event were Craig Nolte, regional manager for Federal Reserve and Regina Stark, of the Washington State Treasury Department.

“The students were excited to present their Financial Literacy curriculum with other educators and institutions around the state, helping their campaign reach students across the state of Washington and further promote financial literacy,” said David Johnson, coach and CHS teacher.

Sorensen named to EOU dean’s list

Stefani Sorensen has been named to the dean’s list at Eastern Oregon University.

To be named to the list, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing at least 12 hours of graded coursework.

PCA students collecting crafts for children’s hospital patients

Students of Pacific Crest Academy in Camas are collecting crafts for Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland to benefit children receiving a variety of treatments.

The students were inspired by a local 10 year old battling cancer.

The drive is being held at PCA and organized by Camas Cadette Girl Scout Troop No. 41864. It will run through this week. To donate crafts or for more information, call Diana Wilson at 503-502-2620.
