Liao earns Eagle Scout rank
Jonathan Liao of Camas has earned his Eagle Scout, the highest honor given by the Boy Scouts of America.
Liao, 16, will be recognized in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Camas United Methodist Church.
He is a member of Troop 565, of the Columbia Gorge District of the Cascade Pacific Council.
Each candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church-related service project to earn an Eagle Scout. For his project, Liao constructed a trellis and custom soil bin for the Two Rivers Heritage Museum in Washougal.
Liao is a sophomore at Camas High School and participates on the Science Olympiad team. He is a part of the Magnet program and a member of the National Honor Society. Liao also is an avid pianist, who volunteers twice a month to play at the Mountainview House assisted living facility in Camas and the Touchmark retirement community in Vancouver.
