A small business in downtown Camas is doing what it can to help clients of the Children’s Center.

Twilight Pizza Bistro is accepting donations of personal care items such as shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash, toothbrushes, hairbrushes and combs, toilet paper and paper towels, soap and feminine hygiene products through Monday.

Laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets, bleach, dish soap, sponges and dishwasher detergent are also accepted, as well as peanut butter, canned meals and soups, bottled fruit juices, pasta sauces and condiments, cereal, breakfast bars, rice, pasta and Ovaltine.

Children’s Center, a private, non-profit state licensed community mental health agency, focusses on mental health services for children, youth and families.

The Children’s Center serves more than 400 children per week, and 98 percent of them are at or below the poverty level.

Morgan McColum, co-owner of Twilight with her husband Don Mills, said she found out about Children’s Center through a friend.

“It’s exactly the kind of organization we like to help and support, as it serves the needs of children and families in the community,” she said. “Everyone is struggling right now, but children shouldn’t have to go without. That’s why we chose to help this organization.”

Everyone who donates an item at Twilight Pizza Bistro can enter to win a gift basket — with wine and coffee.

McColum said she and Mills decided — in lieu of giving candy out during Boo Bash, Wednesday, from 3 to 5 p.m. — Twilight will donate $250 worth of food and personal care items to the Children’s Center.

They are hoping Boo Bash visitors will donate to the cause.

“I believe this is a great opportunity for parents to teach children that it is equally good to give as to receive,” McColum said. “It should leave both the parents and kids with the feeling of having done something positive for someone who needs a little help right now.”

Twilight Pizza Bistro is located at 224 N.E. Fourth Ave. For more information, call 833-9222 or visit www.twilightpizzabistro.com.
